About us
Outlook South West was formed in 1998 mainly as an organisation providing primary care mental health services. Since that time we have expanded to provide mental health clinics in GP practices across Cornwall. We have also gone on to become involved in psychological services in a range of other settings.
The Partners
Kevin Simpson MPsych CPsychol
Kevin is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist and has been practicing since 1982. Initially specialising in psychotherapeutic work with individuals he went on to head the clinical psychology learning disabilities service in Cornwall. In 1998 he co-founded Outlook South West and clinically has developed an interest in applying cognitive therapy and EMDR for a range of common mental health problems. He enjoys coastal walking with his wife and two large dogs, listening to alt-country and following the ill starred progress of Derby County football club.
Catherine Collin MSc CPsychol
Catherine qualified as a clinical psychologist in 1984. After 10 years of NHS experience in learning disability and mental health she became an independent practitioner. Catherine specialised in group work and interpersonal skills training before developing her special interest in primary care mental health. Combining her interest and skills in business development and cognitive therapy she became a founding partner in Outlook South West in 1998. Catherine lives in Fowey with her husband and three young children and enjoys yoga, art and sailing.
Caroline Yates
Caroline qualified in 1996 after several years working with people with learning disabilities and training in family therapy. Before joining Outlook South West in 1998 she specialised in forensic work and working with people with severe challenging behaviour. She has developed the medico-legal business and has a special interest in post trauma stress treatment using CBT and EMDR.
Administrative Staff
Fiona Duguid
Fiona is our our rather brilliant office manager. She keeps the ship running smoothly and is on hand to respond to all enquiries and problems. She is ably assisted in secretarial and reception duties by Suzanne Edwards and Tara Baron.
Psychological Therapists and Counsellors
We have a number of independent counsellors and therapists who also provide services for our organisation. This list is being updated - more therapists to be added in due course.
Fran Rich
Fran is a counsellor (qualified to Advanced Diploma Level CPCAB2004). She has worked with young people in schools throughout Cornwall, mainly relating to bullying issues. She has also been a volunteer counsellor with Cruse Bereavement and CRASAC. Fran provides services for us in the GP surgeries at Port Isaac and Lostwithiel as well as in our evening clinic.
Martin Sellix
Martin holds the Practitioner Diploma in Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT). He has had extensive counselling experience through his work as an Anglican Parish Priest from which he is now retired. In the past he has held counselling positions with GP surgeries and has been a volunteer with various organisations including Jeremiahs Journey. His interests include photography, reading, woodturning and is a keen reluctant gardener. He provides counselling services at the evening clinic in Lostwithiel.
Julie Smith
Julie is a counsellor who is accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. Before training as a counsellor she worked as an adult education tutor providing information and support to parents/carers of children with special educational needs. She holds a Masters Degree in Reflective Counselling Practice, a Diploma in Professional Studies in Counselling, a Certificate in Advanced Counselling Studies, a Certificate in Social Sciences and has received training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Initially working as a volunteer counsellor with The Domestic Violence Support Project, Cornwall Women's Refuge Trust and Cornwall Youth Service SHARE counselling she now provides counselling services to several GP surgeries in Cornwall and at our evening clinic in lostwithiel. She has a private counselling practice in Saltash.
Sue Canon
Sue has been a qualified Counsellor since 1993 with most of her counselling work being within GP Surgeries. Until relocating to Cornwall in 2004 she was employed as Senior Psychotherapist for South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust with a remit for supervising nine Counsellors working within Primary Care. She holds a Masters Degree (Derby University) in Gestalt Psychotherapy. She also has a Supervision Diploma and a Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Skills amongst other Counselling qualifications. She has a private therapy and supvervision practice.
John Alway
John is a Psychological Therapist Accredited by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP.com). He has 14 years experience in the NHS and Private Practice working with people with mild to moderate problems. He has a particular interest and capability in treating the psychological consequences of traumatic experiences. He is trained in the use of EMDR and is accredited by the EMDR Association of the UK and Ireland. That interest is being further developed to provide a service specialising in the application of EMDR to performance anxiety and performance enhancement for those who want to give their best in public.
Caz Folland
Caz is a qualified counsellor who is accredited whti the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and is registered with UKRC. She holds a European Diploma for Therapeutic Counselling. Initially working as a volunteer counsellor with Cornwall Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre, she now runs her own private practice based in Newquay. She provides counselling at a GP surgery in Wadebridge, a local primary school working with children and also works as a Relate Counsellor.
