Information for new NHS patients

Woman on beachIf you have just been referred to our NHS service by your GP, the following information may be helpful.

We see people who may be having difficulties with stress, depression, anxiety and/or other problems.

Mostly, appointments are offered during office hours at your doctor’s surgery. We do have an alternative option for people who are unable to attend normal day-time appointments. We run Tuesday evening clinics at our consulting rooms at Lostwithiel and Wadebridge. This is only available for selected practices – please ask your doctor for details.

What We Provide

We have different approaches for different types of problems.

Some people are offered information, advice and practical suggestions for ways of helping themselves

Other people may be offered the choice of seeing a psychological therapist for a number of appointments.

The available options and your own choices will be discussed with you in the first appointment. Generally first appointments last from between 30 to 45 minutes.

Confidentiality

Our therapists give your GP a brief summary of our work with you – you are welcome to see this. If there is anything you would prefer your therapist not to tell your GP, let them know. However, therapists have a duty of care. This means that if they have serious concerns about any risk to yourself or others they will need to tell your GP.

Cancelling Appointments

Wasted appointments lead to longer waiting times.

Please let the surgery know as soon as possible if you have to cancel. They can then offer the appointment to someone else.

Patients who miss or cancel at short notice more than one appointment will generally be discharged.

Complaints or Compliments

We aim to provide a high quality service. Please let your therapist or GP know if you have a complaint or a compliment, or contact us.

Self-help information

We have advice and information on range of common mental health problems.
